Small Nonprofit. Global Reach.
Working Diversity, Inc. started in 2010 as a conversation among five friends with ties to the corporate community in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This conversation began with a key question: When people want to start a diversity initiative in their organization, where can they go for help? The answer, it seemed, was nowhere, at least nowhere visible.
Soon thereafter, Working Diversity, Inc. was born, and the five friends formed the initial board of directors. Guided by a resolute belief that anyone could become a diversity and inclusion change agent if given support, Working Diversity started matching D&I newcomers with seasoned veterans. While initially focused on the Pittsburgh area, within the first year people from beyond Pittsburgh started asking for assistance, and Working Diversity began to expand its geographic reach.
We are now the only 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the United States that exclusively focuses on providing no-cost mentorship to emerging diversity and inclusion change agents. And we now serve people across the United States and across national borders.
As with our beginning, we remain a volunteer-driven collective. We believe diversity and inclusion are ethically indispensable to every organization. We donate our time and resources to bring this ethic into the world.
